It is crucial for the world to be aware about the term which seems fascinating, though people around me look clueless when they hear about “UX”. The experience already exists, since the evolution of Human on the earth. Basically, journey from the fire invention to the fire lighter is based on the user’s needs and convenience. Agreed that the term UX is defined in 1993 by Don Norman, but of course the field is older than the term.
It’s all about the “User”, I repeat loudly, “USER” as experience can be changed by the user (based on age, domain, demographics, culture etc.…)
My Covid-19 (Corona) story
So, let’s jump to my short story and the incident which inspired me to write a small piece of article. During my Covid-19 war, I suffered from severe cough, and accordingly the doctor prescribed me a cough syrup. The measuring cap of the cough syrup surprised me with its design. Though it was already available but this was my first encounter with cough syrup (thanks to my health and healthy routine).
Right colors and using a correct contrast increase the readability as well as reduces the “Cognitive Load”, i.e. a transparent cap and embossed numbers. It also benefits the people who are not educated enough to identify the given numbers and reduce the chances of error for unmeasured dose.
I understand changing a cap design won’t impact the sales of cough syrup but to understand the user’s needs and pain area is the primary job of a good UX Designer. It’s very much important to give the right amount of dose as mentioned in the prescription. A small change in design made instructions and measurement of syrup easy to use.
When UX doesn’t consider ALL users, shouldn’t it be known as “SOME User Experience” or… SUX?
